“This Winter, Be The Reason A Child Feels Warm And Safe” – A Winter Relief Campaign For Underprivileged Children

Noida, 08th January 2025: As winter temperatures in North India dip to freezing levels, many underprivileged children are left vulnerable to the harsh conditions, battling hunger, cold, and exposure. In response to this crisis, Voice of Slum (VoS) has launched the campaign “This Winter, Be the Reason a Child Feels Warm and Safe” to provide essential support to children and families living in slum areas across India.

The campaign aims to provide daily hot meals and warm clothing to children facing extreme cold conditions in slums. VoS’s goal is to raise funds to serve 1,000 meals every day and distribute warm blankets, jackets, and sweaters to 8,000 individuals living in some of the most underserved communities. With temperatures in North India dropping to as low as -2°C, these basic necessities are a lifeline for those in need.

In India’s impoverished communities, many children grow up in conditions where survival is a daily struggle. The cold, compounded by a lack of food and adequate shelter, exacerbates their vulnerability. Children often face dire circumstances, with many becoming victims of exploitation or resorting to crime just to survive the brutal winter months.

Chandni, Co-founder of VoS, recalls her own childhood spent in a similar environment. "The cold used to pierce through our clothes, and hunger was a constant companion. I never want any child to go through that again."

Dev, her co-founder, adds, "These children are not invisible; their pain is real. We want to ensure that they have the warmth and care they deserve during these harsh months."

The funds raised through the “Be the Reason a Child Feels Warm and Safe” campaign will go towards providing essential winter aid to children and families in slums, who often lack even the most basic necessities. The campaign will provide:

1,000 Hot Meals Per Day: Nutritious meals will be served to children in slum communities to combat hunger and provide much-needed warmth.

8,000 Warm Blankets and Jackets: Cold-proof blankets, sweaters, and jackets will be distributed to children and families to protect them from the biting winter chill.

The initiative will also support ongoing efforts by VoS, which has already served over 66 lakh meals and distributed more than 2 lakh warm items to date.

This winter, every donation counts. With your contribution, you can provide a child with a hot meal for as little as ₹20 or protect them from the cold with a ₹500 donation for a warm blanket. Your support will make a direct impact on the lives of these children, offering them the warmth, care, and safety they desperately need.

"Every donation, no matter how small, brings warmth and hope to a child," says Dev. “When children feel safe and cared for, they can dream of a better future.”

Supporters can donate via Milaap’s crowdfunding platform. Funds raised will go directly to the distribution of meals, blankets, and clothing.

Founded by Chandni and Dev, Voice of Slum is a non-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of children from marginalized slum communities in India. VoS works to provide access to food, education, healthcare, and a safe environment for children, ensuring that they are given the opportunity to escape cycles of poverty and violence.
